If you haven’t heard of lassi before, you’re in for a treat. This popular, traditional Indian yogurt-based drink can be prepared sweet or salty and can include many different Indian spices and flavors. It is a refreshing summer drink, and outside of “plain” lassi, it can come in many flavors like mango and rose and even can be made in a vegan-friendly version.
Two of our favorite forms of lassi are Savory Mint Lassi and this Sweet Mango Lassi recipe.
Either of these beverages would make a great afternoon snack, a special surprise for your next party, or a refreshing accompaniment for any of our hot and spicy entreés!

Savory Mint Lassi
- 2 cups whole, soy, or non-dairy yogurt
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 20 springs mint
- 1/2 cup ice
- 2-4 tbsp whole, soy, or non-dairy milk
Using a blender, finely blend the mint and milk. Start with two tablespoons of milk, and add more if the mint leaves are not blending correctly.
Add the remaining ingredients and blend until well combined.
Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
Sweet Mango Lassi
- 1 cup yogurt or soy yogurt
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 cup mango pureé
- 1/4 tsp cardamom
- 1/3 cup milk or soy milk
- splash rose water
Use a blender to combine all ingredients until smooth.
Garnish with a swirl of mango pureé or sliced mango.
